Fees for changing a company name

There is no fee to register a change of company name, however there is a fee for reserving a new company name — $10 (plus GST). When you swap names with another company, you must pay a fee of $10 (plus GST) for each company.

Paying fees

If you have an online services account with us, a message will appear when you're performing a transaction that has a fee attached. You can select Pay Now to proceed, or Exit to end the transaction without payment.

If you've set up a direct debit payment option on your account, you're invoiced monthly for any fees charged to your account.

You can also pay fees as you go using a credit or debit card, or using internet banking.

Using an API to pay your fees

We offer a range of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow customers to build software that connects directly to our systems.

The fees for some of our online services are lower if you use our API. For example, when filing an annual return, the Companies Office portion of the fee is $18 (plus GST) if you use our API, instead of $21 (plus GST) if you use our online service.

Information about APIs, including technical specifications and support to use them can be found on the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) API website.
